How To Get The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship

The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship program funded by the state of Florida to assist eligible Florida high school graduates in pursuing post-secondary education in the state particularly at schools such as The University of Florida (UF), Florida State University (FSU), Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Florida International University, Florida Polytechnic University, University of Central Florida (UCF) and many more. It offers several different award levels, each with its own requirements and award amounts.

There are 3 primary types of Bright Futures Scholarships:

Florida Academic Scholars (FAS)

This is the most prestigious scholarship. It covers 100% of tuition and applicable fees at eligible Florida public or private colleges and universities, plus a set amount for books and supplies. To qualify, students typically need a high weighted GPA (3.5+), high SAT/ACT scores (1340+/29+), and a certain number of community service hours.

Florida Medallion Scholarship (FMS)

This scholarship covers 75% of tuition and applicable fees at eligible Florida public institutions. The award also includes a set amount for books and supplies. To qualify, students generally need a slightly lower GPA (3.0+)  and test score (1210+/25+) than FAS, but still above a certain threshold.

Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV)

This scholarship is for students pursuing career and technical education programs. It covers up to 75% of tuition and applicable fees at eligible institutions, along with a set amount for books and supplies. To qualify, students need to meet specific GPA and coursework requirements.

Additional Requirements

– Be a Florida resident and U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.

– Graduate from a Florida high school or equivalent.

– Complete the required high school coursework, which includes a specific number of credits in core academic subjects.

– Complete the required high school coursework, which includes a specific number of credits in core academic subjects.

– Be a Florida resident and U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.

– Take at least 3 full credits in a single Career and Technical Education program;

– Achieve the required minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA in the career education courses;
